Presenting and matching the solution

Reading depth

What you'll be able to do

Tie the recommendation to the client's stated goal, lead with benefits, and state trade-offs honestly up front.

  • Restate the goal, show the fit, name trade-offs, justify over alternatives.
  • Lead with client-framed benefits; support with features.
  • Fold disclosure into the presentation, not as an afterthought.

A strong presentation connects the recommendation back to the client's own words. The structure that works: restate the goal you heard, show how the recommended solution meets it, name the trade-offs honestly (cost, risk, lock-ins), and explain why this option over the alternatives. You're not performing features; you're closing the loop between their need and your solution.

Lead with benefits framed in the client's terms — 'this gets your mortgage covered if anything happens to you' — and support them with the relevant features, not the other way around. Bring the disclosure into the presentation rather than bolting it on at the end: cost and risk stated up front read as honesty and build trust.

Tailor depth to the client. Some want the one-line 'here's what it does and what it costs'; others want the mechanics. Reading that, and checking understanding as you go, is what separates a presentation from a monologue.

Key points

  • Restate the goal, show the fit, name trade-offs, justify over alternatives.
  • Lead with client-framed benefits; support with features.
  • Fold disclosure into the presentation, not as an afterthought.
  • Tailor depth and check understanding as you go.

Examples

Goal → solution → trade-off

'You said the priority is the kids being okay if something happens to you (goal). This term policy covers that for the next 20 years (solution). It builds no cash value, which is why it's affordable (trade-off).'

Pitfalls

  • Reciting features the client never asked about (a feature dump).
  • Saving cost and risk for the very end, which reads as a reveal.
