PMP scenarios are dense and often run 100+ words. A reliable triage pattern: (1) read the *last sentence* first — it usually contains the actual question ('what should the PM do FIRST / NEXT / BEST?'). (2) Identify the focus area (Initiating / Planning / Executing / M&C / Closing) and the performance domain. (3) Note the wording: 'first' means immediate action; 'best' implies a strategic choice; 'next' implies a sequence.
Eliminate two answers immediately. Two of four options will usually be obviously wrong (ignores the plan, breaks ethics, bypasses change control). The remaining two are the harder choice. Apply PMI-isms: plan-following > action-first; analyse > act; escalate when over threshold; collaborate > force.
Be alert for 'do nothing' answers — they are sometimes correct (e.g., 'monitor only' for low-priority stakeholders, 'passive acceptance' for low-priority risks). They are rarely the right call for the FIRST action in execution, but not always wrong.
